About the book

This book is the journey of Comrade Swami Madan Agrawal's ideas, experiences and struggles. It is not the story of one man alone, but of a way of thinking that gave a lifetime to making society fairer, more just and more equal.

On society, politics, the economy, education, culture and what it means to be human, his writing is plain, unafraid and provoking — an invitation to think, to question, and to take a step towards a better society.

Author's note

This book is the reckoning of my life. It is not a list of my awards. It is not a monument to my achievements. It is the fire of ideas I lived by, tested, changed — and broke when they needed breaking.

How a chapter works

An argument, an admission, two questions

  1. One

    The argument

He puts his case plainly, without padding.

  2. Two

    “Now my own part”

He admits a failing of his own. This is what keeps it from becoming a sermon.

  3. Three

    Two questions

Two questions for the reader, whose answers are not in the book.
