Discipline, pleasure and release — while you are young.
He insists the spiritual is not something reserved for old age. Discipline, pleasure and release are all to be understood while one is young, not saved up for later.
On death his position is plain — he does not fear dying, he fears being unfinished. The things left undone are not left for want of time; they are left because we kept putting them off, assuming tomorrow was certain.
Heaven and hell he calls old greed and old fear. And his most practical counsel sits here too — ask for the forgiveness you owe, give the forgiveness you withhold, and make the one phone call you have not made.
I do not fear death — I fear being unfinished.
